We are proud that Orienta® Milya received the Golden Rose of Baden-Baden at the award ceremony.

The rose novelty competition in Baden-Baden is a highlight of the year for many rose breeders and rose lovers. Guests and breeders from all over the world meet in the test garden, which offers a magnificent view of the Black Forest.

This year, around 140 new rose varieties from over 30 breeders from all over the world were up for selection. More than 70 experts, including from the USA, Canada, India and China, were invited to evaluate and award prizes to the roses. The competition took place for the 73rd time.

Depending on their growth type, the roses were assessed multiple times over a period of two or three years by a permanent judging panel and a jury of experts. On the day of the competition, an international jury is formed from the participants. The results of all the judging panels are added together to give the total score and determine the ranking of the rose varieties. On the day of the competition, the roses were presented in perfect condition and under ideal weather conditions, and there was a wide range of varieties that had a very good chance of winning the Golden Rose.

This brightly coloured variety was created by crossing a Persian wild rose, ‘Rose persica’, from Iran with a garden rose.

We are extremely proud, as this was the first time that such a variety had been awarded the Golden Rose.
